Chennai Super Kings suffered their eighth defeat in the Indian Premier League 2025. With their loss to Punjab Kings at Chepauk, five-time champions CSK have been knocked out of the race from the IPL 2025 playoffs.

New Delhi:

Chennai Super Kings have officially been knocked out of the race for the IPL 2025 playoffs as Punjab Kings drew curtains on the five-time champions' campaign on Wednesday, April 30. Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh led the way extremely well in the 191-run chase against CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

With this loss, CSK have become the first team to be knocked out of the race to the playoffs. CSK now have two wins in 10 matches and are at the bottom of the points table. CSK have also lost five matches at home in a season for the first time in their history. They had lost four games out of five at Chepauk before and the loss against PBKS is their fifth at their fortress Chepuak, which has been breached again.

CSK had a good show with the bat as they put up 190/10 in 19.2 overs on the back of Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis. The two foreign players put up a good show in the middle with a 78-run stand for the fourth wicket. Curran starred with his 88 from 47 balls as he unleashed some breathtaking strokes. Brevis played a decent second fiddle with his 32 from 26. However, the biggest highlight of the first innings was Yuzvendra Chahal's hat-trick in the 19th over.

Chahal took four wickets in the penultimate over to send CSK down from 177/5 after 18 overs to 186/9 after 19. He took Dhoni's wicket on the second ball before getting a hat-trick on the fourth, fifth and sixth delivery. Chahal removed Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad to complete his hat-trick.

Prabhsimran and Shreyas controlled the chase pretty well. While Priyansh Arya departed after a brief fine start, Prabhsimran upped the ante and took the bowlers on. He kept the scoreboard ticking and scored boundaries at will. Prabhsimran had a good association with Shreyas, who marshalled the chase after the young opener was dismissed.

There was a bit of drama in the final over when two runs were needed as PBKS lost Suryansh Shedge, however, they crossed the line with two balls to go. With this, CSK got knocked out of the tournament and lost five consecutive games at Chepauk for the first time.
